Big Green Week 2022 - Bike Ride and Social

Bike Ride: Following the success of last year’s event (see above), CycHull City is once again teaming up with Hull Friends of the Earth for a bike ride to check out the new Cottingham to Hull route. We’ll be starting at Pearson Park at 12:30pm heading towards Cottingham as far as West Bulls, then coming back into Hull City Centre where we’ll pause at some key landmarks including Hull New Theatre, Murdoch’s Connection and Hull Pier. We’ll then head through the Old Town over Scale Lane Bridge for a social at Rooted In Hull’s urban farm.

The ride is suitable for all abilities and ages (under 18s must be accompanied by an adult). The route is flat and mostly off-road or segregated from the traffic.

No need to book ahead but if you can indicate that you’re coming on HFoE’s Facebook event that would help with planning.

Link to cycle ride route here

Social at Rooted, St Peter Street, Hull HU9 1AA from 2pm-5pm with pizza, drinks, activities as well as a band.  The social will be a great opportunity to get to know more about HFoE & CycHull activities, chat with friends, as well as share stories as part of an informal creative discussion that may lead to a future art/environmental project in the City. It would be great to see you there, and feel free to come to just the cycle ride, or just the social (or both).

On your bike for COP26!

Update Mon 13 Sep: The route is finalised! (click to see the map)

After starting at West Park at 11:00, we’ll make our way to Garrowby Orchard, just off Priory Road, to check in with the Hull Friends of the Earth project there. We’ll then make our way to Temple Street to see the climate change mural, before heading to East Park. In total, it’s about 8.5 mile / 14 km, with people free to join us or drop out whenever suits them. Approximate timings as follows:

11:00 - Leave West Park; 11:30 - Arrive Garrowby Orchard; 12:00 - Leave Garrowby Orchard; 12:30 - Arrive Temple Street mural; 12:45 - Leave Temple Street mural; 1315 - Arrive East Park.

Please note: the route goes over the Priory Drive - Hotham Road North footbridge; if you plan to join us and use an adapted or non-standard cycle, or have mobility issues, that make using this bridge impractical, we will modify the route accordingly.

In the run-up to the climate conference, our friends at Hull Friends of the Earth (HFOE) are arranging a series of activities to draw attention to what can, and already is, being done in the local community. When they suggested we put on a bike ride together, we jumped at the chance!

So come and join us for a ride round the city.

Starting at West Park and making our way across the city to East Park, we’ll stop in to say hello to HFOE volunteers who are working on other activities during the day, and make use of some of the new and existing bike infrastructure for our route. What better way to see what the city has to offer and how we can help it transform for the better?

Hull’s original Low Traffic Neighbourhood?

An area of quiet residential streets and already criss-crossed with foot paths and bike paths. Come along for the ride as we follow existing paths, work out routes for more and make note of how the areas network could be improved. We’ll also be emailing Google afterwards to let them know Google Maps doesn’t show a lot of the existing bike paths.

Meet on Sutton Road at the Ennerdale roundabout, 10:30 AM. The planned route is about 15 miles, so should take about 2 hours at an easy pace with plenty of stops. Hopefully we can grab a beer afterwards.

Bring a camera!
