Cycle Security

Keep your bike (or trike, or scooter) safe

With an increase in bike use there will unfortunately, probably, also be an increase in bike theft. Therefore, it’s important to keep your pride-and-joy safe and secure. The most basic ways to keep your bike safe are common sense, but bear repeating:

  • Always use a good quality lock - do your research as to what has proven to be secure by companies such as Sold Secure, or with advice and reviews from sites such as TheBestBikeLock.

  • Wherever and whenever possible, use two locks.

  • Make sure whatever you’re locking your bike to is secure!

  • Weigh up whether it is best to leave your bike out of sight or in full view.

  • Consider using one of the new bike parking hubs (if they’re convenient) at Trinity Market or Paragon Station.

Register your bike (and it’s potentially worth doing other possessions, too)

A few weeks ago, CycHull contacted Humberside Police to see if they still put on events where you can turn up to have your bike security marked and registered - unfortunately, they do not. However, Humberside Police and many other police forces across the country now recommend that people register their bikes (and other possessions) with companies that not only keep a database, but also sell various kits to mark your property. This page is a helpful summary of the services available; the rest of the website is well worth a browse too.

Request bike storage where you need it

We’ve just set up a page to help determine where there’s demand for more bike parking and to let the relevant local councillors know. Have a click and see where other CycHull members want to be able to lock up their bikes.
